WIN AND MOVE ON!

Indy Eleven wins their first USL W League playoff match in their conference semi-final against Flint City AFC. It didn’t take long for Indy to find the back of the net. A penalty was awarded to Indy in the 13th minute. Grace Bahr steps to the spot and slots it opposite of the keeper. It wouldn’t be until the 42nd minute when Sam Dewey scored a wonderful back heel goal from inside a crowded box. Flint City had their run of chances in the first half. A mix of misplaced shots and solid defense held Flint City scoreless in the first half. The second half kicked off and it didn’t take long before Katie Soderstrom found the back of the net in the 49th minute. This would be the last goal of the game. It wasn’t without a few close chances from Flint City though. A handful of corners that went wayward and crosses into the box that either missed their teammates or got snagged by Nona Reason, quickly became the story of Flint Cities attack. Nonetheless, Indy comes away with a 3-0 victory in Flint, MI.

Next up for our Girls in Blue, a rematch of last year’s first round matchup against Minnesota Aurora FC. Last season we saw our girls take their only defeat of the year, in front of a sold-out crowd within the Minnesota Vikings training facility. Earlier in the day, Minnesota played Chicago City for the 3rd time this year where they only managed to find the back of the net off a 1st half penalty. Something to look out for on Saturday though, Minnesota had a lot of chances today that just barely came off the foot wrong. That match easily could have been 8-0, possibly even more. Unfortunately, with it being a 3pm kick, I only managed to listen/watch the 2nd half of the match.

Saturday’s conference championship will take place at 3:00pm ET. The match will be streamed over on the Michigan Soccer Network’s YouTube page. Be on the look out with communications from the Indy Eleven social media team in the event of a “in stadium watch party.” Saturday night our Boys In Blue will face off against FC Tulsa at 7:00pm at The Mike.
