Indy In The Offseason

There’s a lot to catch up on, so bear with me as I try to get it all in as well as an outlook at the 2024 schedule.

On November 28, 2023, the club announced the separation from head coach Mark Lowry. This lead to many fans furious and questioning the front office, with most taking to X (formerly twitter) to display that frustration. On November 29th, 2023, Indy Eleven legend, Ayoze announced his departure from the club as well. These two announcements have left fans at a loss & with far more questions than answers. Who will be our coach for the 2024 season? Short answer, unannounced. Long answer, we hope to find out before the year turns. Most were hoping to see an announcement after the club posted on social media “How about a fun announcement next week?? 🤔” This “fun announcement” however, would not be the new head coach.

During the offseason, we have seen the initial roster of returners. Yannik Oettl, Younes Boudadi, Callum Chapman-Page, Adrian Diz Pe, Macauley King, Jack Blake, Cam Lindley, Aodhan Quinn, & Sebastian Guenzatti all got announced a few weeks prior to the coaching dismissals. Another signing announced the same day as Lowry’s departure, Indy Eleven USL Academy product, Diego Sanchez signed on to his first professional contract. Aedan Stanley from Miami FC was announced as being signed to Indy on December 4th.

Other big news in the Indy Eleven offseason, the city county council gave approval for Eleven Park. You can read all about that here:

Now onto the 2024 schedule.

March 9th will start off the season when Indy heads out to Oakland followed by another road game in Memphis on March 16th. 17 home games in what is currently promoted as the last full season at The Mike. The first of which will take place on March 23rd against Sacramento Republic.

6 Western Conference road games. 6 Western Conference home games. Conference realignment has also taken place. FC Tulsa & Memphis 901 FC, are jumping from the Eastern Conference to the Western Conference in 2024. This year, Indy will play both on the road.

Louisville Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest (LIPAFC) fans won’t have to wait long for the first installment of the 2024 season as the two have an early clash set for April 6th down south. LIPAFC fans will however have to wait to see the coveted Barrell hoisted until October 5th when the historic rivalry returns to The Mike for what could be the last regular season matchup between the two until the opening of Eleven Park.

One matchup that is returning to the men’s side for the first time in a long time, North Carolina FC (formerly and forever known as the Railhawks,) renew their Indy matchups on April 27th. The last time an Indy Eleven side squared off with North Carolina, was our Girls In Blue when the two squared off in the USL W League Championship back in July.

On May 25th, Memorial Day weekend & the traditional Racing Indy match, will be against defending champions, Phoenix Rising. Last year, Indy went to Phoenix for a mid-week after dark match where both sides battled to a 1-1 draw.

Newcomers, Rhode Island FC will have some quick turnaround matchups with Indy. Currently slated to play host to Indy on July 5th & then Indy will play host on what is currently the only regular season mid-week home matchup on Wednesday August 7th.

Indy will get their first shot at redemption against the 2023 Eastern Conference Champions on April 13th & then August 3rd on the road at Charleston Battery. Last year Indy fell to Charleston in the playoffs, 5-0. Indy will finish their home season on October 19th against Birmingham & will finish the regular season on the road, October 26th against Tampa Bay.

The regular season weekday breakdown is quite possibly the simplest breakdown we have seen since Indy joined the USL. 12 Saturday away days, 15 Saturday home games. 2 Sunday away days, 1 Sunday home game. 2 Friday & 1 Tuesday away days. And just the 1 lone Wednesday home game. To put it very simply, clear your Saturday plans because Indy is at home.
